Identify best practices in place elsewhere in order to make pressure on the legislator of one’s own Country, with the aim of adopting them. Organize regular meetings in Europe and beyond, finding common targets to pursue. Above all, to talk with a single voice, lobbying more effectively towards political and legislators. They are some of the themes key of which is discussed in the Startup Advocacy Summit held last Thursday and Friday in London. An unprecedented initiative of lobbying with participants from a dozen of nations (France, Uk, Greece, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Slovakia, Hungary, Usa and others). Among them two Italians: Marco Marinucci of Mind the Bridge and Gianmarco Carnovale from Rome Startup. The meeting has been organized by Coadec (Coalition for Digital Economy), a Ngo based in London’s ” Tech City” , born to represent the claims of local startups to the British government.

Today there’s no  global advocacy of the startup system – Marinucci tells me – this has been a first step to internationalize problems that are often the same, even if interlocutors change“.

In other words, to grow together through the exchange and comparison of experiences, keeping in mind that the right inspiration does not always have to come from the Usa. “Crowdfunding, of which so many speak – the Italian, San Francisco based, entrepreneur adds  – is not active yet in the States, while in Uk it has been up and running already for a year. France can also teach a lot on the normative on tax reliefs; and so on“.

The legal definition of ” startup” also changes from country to country, arousing perplexity in potential investors; that’s the reason why one of the matters to be discussed in further meetings, will be the proposal of an unique and simplified legal entity for all Europe. Another hot theme is that of incentives to immigration, not only integration in general, but specifically concerning the attraction of the best talents in certain key innovative areas. ” This aspect of the immigration is totally absent from Italy’s public speech – Marinucci comments – but in Usa and Uk it is very felt. Spain has recently approved incentives to convince all people that graduate in the nation’s Business Schools to remain in the country“.

As for now, the activity of the Advocacy Summit is still in embryonic phase: the next stadium will be to build up a minimum of internal organization and give life to a working group  that will regularly meet not only in London, but also in other European cities. Last but not least, the naming. How to call this new pressure group? One of the main proposals , that reminds a bit of the Nba’s All Stars, is: ” United Startups“. How do you like  it?
